In celebration of St David’s Day, Princess Catherine and Prince William shared candid moments from their trip to Newtown, West Wales. Their Instagram account unveiled images of the royal couple engaging with schoolchildren during a walkabout through the rain.

At Hafan yr Afon in Powys, where volunteers make up nearly 40% of the population, they joined a gala event marking the prominence of community champions across the region. The venue is a bustling hub that combines elements of a café, market, and performance space, run entirely by volunteer efforts.

Earlier in their visit, the royals had ventured to The Hanging Gardens in Llanidloes, also staffed and operated by dedicated volunteers. There, they gazed at artwork created by young people supported through the Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award. This prestigious prize aims to foster mental health awareness and personal development among beneficiaries.

Despite experiencing showers throughout their day, the royal couple delighted visitors with a lively game of rock-paper-scissors and accepted thoughtful gifts from onlookers. Both wore daffodil pins in celebration of March 1st, when Wales celebrates its national day.

At Hafan yr Afon, volunteer groups were honored for their invaluable contributions to Newtown’s community life, culminating the royal couple’s engagement with local champions during their recent visit.
