Princess Diana lost her HRH title after divorce from King Charles. This loss deeply affected her as she felt it was part of her royal identity and she had worked tirelessly for many years.

In his book A Royal Duty, former royal butler Paul Burrell mentioned the feelings of Diana post-divorce. He wrote that when the final decision was taken behind the scenes, Diana was devastated.

Burrell also noted that Diana found unexpected support from an unlikely corner of the Royal Family – Princess Michael of Kent. The princess reportedly sent a sincere letter to Diana and insisted she wouldn’t expect her to curtsy in public as it would cause her great embarrassment.
