Indian film icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas took center stage at a Harvard University event recently, offering candid insights into her transformative journey from Bollywood to Hollywood. Now 43 years old, she recalled navigating significant challenges in her early days in America with unflinching honesty.
In an interview that resonated with her experiences, Chopra Jonas reflected on the tough times she faced while establishing herself in Hollywood. “I was dealing with something back home and walked into this interview feeling completely wrong,” she shared, emphasizing how her nerves were raw. She vividly recounted saying to a hiring manager: “I want a legacy. I don’t just want a career; I’m aiming for a long-lasting impact.”
Chopra Jonas’ decision to pursue stardom in Hollywood stemmed from the immense pressure and turmoil she encountered back in India. There, her primary goal was securing another magazine assignment—a small role that needed to be played daily, despite sometimes not receiving her desired footage.
“It took me over 15 hours to wait for a shoot one day,” she explained, detailing these frustrating experiences. “I had to push through every morning with a clear vision of achieving something greater—my legacy.” Her dedication and resilience fueled her relentless pursuit even when the immediate rewards were scarce.
Reflecting on her definition of success, Chopra Jonas articulated it clearly: being able to spend time with her family, including picking up her young daughter from school. “I felt fulfilled when I could dedicate portions of my day to work without sacrificing important moments with loved ones,” she stated, acknowledging that these responsibilities shaped her career path.
The actress also paid tribute to a younger version of herself for laying the groundwork: “It was because of that girl who ran so fast—I forgave myself for the choices and mistakes I made. Even though I didn’t always agree with them, I’m grateful for having had such a transformative journey.” Her empathy towards her past self underscored the ongoing growth she’s experienced over years in Hollywood.
Chopra Jonas’ narrative at Harvard encapsulates not just her achievements but also her personal evolution—an inspiring tale of perseverance and resilience.
