Punjab Approves Gujranwala Mass Transit System Design
A key meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore approved the design of the Gujranwala Mass Transit System. The chief minister directed that every area of Gujranwala be connected to the metro system through feeder buses.
Two tunnel sections were approved to reduce traffic pressure, along with a principled approval for 17 to 19 kilometers of underground track. A 31.5-kilometer transit system will be constructed from Ghakhar to Aimanabad, featuring 24 stations, including two underground stations.
Depots will be established in Garjakh, Chan Da Qila, and Gondlanwala. Officials said the system will have the capacity to facilitate 2.6 million passengers. Solar systems will be installed at each station and depot. Additionally, a 62-kilometer drainage system and a modern command and control center will also be developed alongside the project.
