Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has mandated the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in all schools across Punjab. This initiative marks a significant step forward for education reform in the region.

For the first time, AI training workshops have been organized directly under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and are open to all ministers. The workshop titled “Empowering Punjab with AI” commenced at an official ministerial level meeting attended by cabinet members. During the event, senior officials were briefed on effective use of Gemini and other AI tools, alongside discussions on policy frameworks, operational decision-making, sectoral reforms, and the role of AI in governance.

The chief minister highlighted the transformative potential of digital technology, emphasizing that AI support is crucial for policy development and reform efforts. She also stressed the importance of responsible AI usage to bring about positive change.

Additionally, Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced a series of initiatives within the education sector. These include training programs for 3,000 teachers in Punjab’s School Education Department, issuing IDs to over 300,000 students under the School Education Department, and training approximately 200,000 students and 2,000 teachers through the Punjab Education Foundation. The chief minister also highlighted various scholarships worth thousands of dollars across ten different organizations aimed at promoting digital journalism.

Google for Education experts were invited to share updates on their initiatives in Punjab, including master-level training programs for educators, student ID issuance campaigns, and other educational reforms. Maryam Nawaz Sharif commended these developments while acknowledging the rich cultural heritage and historical significance of cities like Lahore.
