Responding to the increasing cases of pneumonia-related deaths among children in Punjab, the Caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has declared an extended winter break for students up to grade 1. The decision aims to safeguard young children from the harsh cold weather conditions prevalent in the province.

The announcement was made during an emergency meeting at the Children’s Hospital in Lahore. In addition to extending winter holidays, the Chief Minister directed the postponement of all examinations originally scheduled for this month.

Expressing deep concern over the alarming situation, Naqvi highlighted that eight out of every 10 children in the province are reported to be suffering from pneumonia. The situation is particularly distressing, with a significant number of deceased children being infants under six months old, underscoring the vulnerability of the youngest members of society to the prevailing weather conditions.
