
Punjab Disaster Management Authority Issues Heatwave Alert
Heatwave alert issued by Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warns temperatures may rise significantly above normal during Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
According to PDMA spokesperson, temperatures expected to be four to seven degrees higher than average in most districts of Punjab. In cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Sialkot, temperatures may reach up to 42°C, while in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sargodha and Jhang, mercury could rise to around 50°C.
PDMA warns heat intensity may continue even during the night in parts of Punjab. Citizens advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to sun between 10am and 5pm, drink plenty of water and fluids.
Children, elderly people, butchers, livestock traders and sanitation workers urged to take special precautions during heatwave period. Arrangements being made for drinking water, shade, medical and veterinary camps at livestock markets across the province. PDMA urges people to arrange water for animals and birds during extreme heat and contact emergency helpline 1129 in case of any heat-related emergencies.
