Punjab government has approved a significant investment of Rs1.14 billion to procure 108 new vehicles for its high-ranking officials, bureaucrats, and inspection teams. The move comes as Punjab grapples with fiscal management challenges while ensuring operational and security needs are met.

The provincial cabinet recommended the purchase of these vehicles, which include bulletproof and security-laden models. The transport wing has already submitted proposals to procure 28 new vehicles for the Punjab cabinet at an estimated cost of Rs300 million. This fleet includes one Toyota Land Cruiser, two Haval 1.5 cars, five Toyota Corolla Grande Altis, ten Toyota Altis, and ten Toyota Yaris models.

Moreover, two bulletproof four-by-four vehicles are included in the proposal for two ministers to cater specifically to their security requirements. Punjab had earlier granted permission for these bulletproof vehicles due to security concerns.

In addition, recommendations have been approved for purchasing 25 VIP security vehicles worth Rs270 million. These include 30 double-cabin pick-up trucks, 11 Toyota Yaris cars, and three Toyota Altis models.

For the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team, a total of 30 double-cabin pick-up trucks, 11 Toyota Yaris cars, and three Toyota Altis will be included in the fleet. The procurement includes Suzuki Cultus cars and motorcycles as well.

The provincial administration is expected to initiate the procurement process once final approval is granted. This decision underscores Punjab’s commitment to meeting both operational and security requirements amid ongoing fiscal pressures.
