
Following the deaths of a woman and her daughter who fell into a manhole in Lahore, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has imposed stringent safety measures at construction sites across the city. Director General Kinza Murtaza issued directives to all construction sites under RDA control, mandating strict adherence to safety protocols.
The orders include mandatory installation of fencing, CCTV cameras operating round-the-clock, adequate lighting during night hours, and clear, prominent safety signboards at each site. Labourers are also instructed to follow prescribed safety rules. The RDA DG emphasized that regular inspections by relevant directorates must ensure full compliance with these measures.
In the event of violations, legal action will be taken swiftly, including sealing of construction sites and imposition of fines. Protection of public life and property is prioritized by the government, with any negligence or carelessness strictly addressed.
The RDA DG stressed that officials should regard these orders as their personal responsibility. Additionally, awareness campaigns on construction safety will be conducted in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to promote effective coordination among departments.
