Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will discuss security issues in Moscow.
The meeting coincides with recent talks between Russia, Ukraine, and US officials aimed at ending the four-year conflict in Ukraine.
Wang Yi’s visit to Russia also marks the 20th round of China-Russia strategic security consultations. The discussions focused on regional tensions, particularly in Asia, following comments from Japan’s new prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, which Beijing and Moscow view as heightening existing security concerns.
Shoigu reaffirmed Russia’s unwavering support for issues including Taiwan, Xinjiang, Xizang (Tibet), and Hong Kong. Wang Yi met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to further diplomatic coordination in the afternoon.
This trip by Shoigu coincides with recent discussions between Russia, Ukraine, and US officials on ending the conflict in Ukraine. Wang Yi’s visit also reflects sustained high-level engagement between China and Russia.
