Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) nominee Sarfraz Bugti has been elected unopposed as the Chief Minister of Balochistan on Friday, securing the coveted position without facing any opposition.
Bugti emerged as the sole candidate for the esteemed role, with no other member of the provincial assembly submitting nomination papers. The absence of contenders paved the way for Bugti’s uncontested ascension to the chief ministerial post.
The formal voting process for his confirmation is scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday), during which Bugti will aim to secure a minimum of 33 votes in the House of 65 members to officially assume the role.
Worth mentioning is Bugti’s previous role as the caretaker interior minister of Balochistan, a position he held until his resignation ahead of the general elections held on February 8.
