Senate Secretariat Issues Rebuttal on Luxury Vehicle Purchase for Chairperson
On Monday, the Senate Secretariat issued a rebuttal regarding reports of a luxury vehicle purchase for Senate Chairperson Yousaf Raza Gilani. The rebuttal confirmed the acquisition and provided details as previously reported.
The vehicle, reportedly worth Rs90 million, was allegedly bought from the Senate’s budget in May 2025. According to the report, Gilani explained that he used savings from the Senate’s previous year’s budget for the purchase.
The Senate Secretariat denied these reports, stating they are misleading and factually incorrect. The rebuttal confirmed the vehicle was purchased during the 2024-2025 financial year through a transparent procurement process as part of an overall vehicle replacement plan.
The vehicle included replacements for those allocated to standing committees chairperson, Senate deputy chairman, leader of the House, the leader of the opposition, and the Senate Secretariat. The car was delivered in March 2026, with payment made from the previous year’s budget savings in May 2025.
The Secretariat urged media organizations to exercise due diligence and professional responsibility in reporting matters related to state institutions.
