A resolution concerning the health of Pakistan’s prominent opposition leader, Imran Khan, was rejected in the Senate today, sparking a strong protest from PTI senators. The PTI Senator Aun Abbas Bappi moved the resolution, which faced government opposition and was ultimately dismissed. Following the rejection, PTI senators gathered at the chairman’s dais, raising slogans and staging a protest.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah stated that the opposition leader wanted to discuss Imran Khan’s health in the House but emphasized that the Supreme Court report had already clarified his living conditions. The report submitted to the Supreme Court confirmed that Imran Khan’s security in jail was adequate, with medical checks being conducted regularly by both jail doctors and external physicians. To date, 25 external check-ups have been completed.
Rana Sanaullah further stated that any directives issued by the Supreme Court regarding additional medical examinations would be fully implemented. Meanwhile, Opposition leader Allama Raja Nasser Abbas criticized the handling of the matter, accusing the doctors conducting the checks of not being specialists and that Imran Khan’s family and lawyers were not properly informed. He emphasized that sudden vision loss could not occur abruptly and called for accountability regarding the treatment and medical monitoring of political prisoners.
The government assured the Senate that any directives issued by the Supreme Court would be fully implemented, while Nasser Abbas demanded proper medical accountability from both the government and the judiciary. His demands have reignited protests among the opposition, as they believe the situation with Imran Khan’s health remains under scrutiny despite assurances from the authorities.
