Former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has announced the formation of a new political party, the ‘Awam Pakistan Party’.
According to reports, the party’s General Secretary will be Miftah Ismail, who delivered an impassioned speech at the party’s inaugural event on Saturday.
Miftah Ismail emphasized the need for systemic change in Pakistan, criticizing the current system as one designed for the elite and likening it to a predator-prey scenario. He highlighted the grim reality faced by 40% of the country’s children, questioning the efficacy of a government that fails to bring improvement.
Ismail pointed out the disproportionate tax burden on salaried individuals, while large landowners remain untaxed. “What kind of government runs like the East India Company?” he asked, criticizing the lack of support for the middle class.
He also lamented that Pakistan is falling behind its neighboring countries, with the youth so desperate to leave that they risk their lives crossing oceans. “We will not let this system continue,” he vowed, calling for an overhaul to ensure a fairer and more equitable society.
