
Shehbaz Sharif officially assumed office as the 24th prime minister of Pakistan.
President Arif Alvi administered the oath to the newly-elected PM in the presence of Shahbaz’s family members, key party leaders, and members of the caretaker cabinet. Notable attendees included Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Asif Zardari, and the speaker of the National Assembly, along with the chief ministers of Balochistan, Sindh, and Punjab.
The ceremony also saw the presence of Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff General Sahir Shamshad. Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar sat beside President Arif Alvi during the oath-taking.
Shehbaz Sharif’s election as PM came after securing 201 votes in the National Assembly, with his opponent, Omar Ayub Khan from the Sunni Ittehad Council, receiving 92 votes.
