Sindh Cabinet Approves Major Spending Measures
The Sindh cabinet approved a series of spending measures on Tuesday. These include a Rs 510 million fuel subsidy for fishing communities, Rs 6.5 billion for Karachi road repairs, and funds for a new bridge linking Hyderabad and Kotri.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House. Provincial ministers, advisors, and senior officials attended the session discussing a 25-point agenda.
Under the fuel subsidy scheme, thousands of fishing boats in Thatta, Karachi, Sujawal, and Badin will receive between Rs 100,000 and Rs 200,000 each. The motorcycle fuel subsidy was extended through May 31, with over Rs 2 billion allocated for the program.
Urban infrastructure received Rs 6.5 billion for road rehabilitation across 24 towns in Karachi. Additionally, a mega cemetery project in Malir district was approved, involving the acquisition of 500 acres for the Local Government Department.
The bridge construction will greatly benefit residents, according to Murad Ali Shah. The Chief Minister also directed officials to open the Sukkur Trauma Centre by June and establish an anti-encroachment tribunal in Shaheed Benazirabad.
Agreements reached during a recent presidential visit to China were discussed, including plans for a seawater desalination plant in Karachi and a vaccine factory against animal diseases. A dedicated China desk will be established within the provincial Investment Department to oversee these initiatives.
The cabinet also approved an amendment to the Sindh Protection of Human Rights Act, forwarding it to the provincial assembly.
