Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has set May 2026 as the final deadline for the completion of the Malir River Bridge, extending the earlier target of March 2026.

The directive followed a detailed review of the project’s progress by a specialised team from the Planning and Development Department Sindh, which also inspected the N-5 Murghi Khana Bridge in Quaidabad to assess regional connectivity standards.

According to technical briefings, the Rs. 3.006 billion project has achieved around 65 per cent physical completion, while 61.6 per cent of the allocated budget has already been utilised. Emphasising the importance of standards, the chief minister stressed that while timely completion is important, the quality of construction will not be compromised. He warned officials against cutting corners as the project enters its final stages.

To ensure structural integrity and long-term durability, the P&D team carried out non-destructive testing (NDT) at the site to verify concrete strength, along with detailed measurements of girders and transoms. The team reported that overall progress is satisfactory, though some external challenges continue to affect the pace of work.

Taking notice of delays caused by utility relocation, the chief minister directed authorities to formally approach K-Electric for the expedited shifting of its infrastructure, which is currently hindering construction. He also ordered the immediate procurement and stockpiling of gravel and aggregate base materials for the bridge ramps, stressing that an uninterrupted supply of materials is essential to ensure the project’s completion within the revised timeline.
