The Sindh Employees’ Social Security Institution (SESSI) governing body has approved a Rs2 billion endowment fund to cater to the treatment and welfare of children affected by HIV. The decision was made during a budget meeting chaired by Labour Minister Saeed Ghani, with attendance from key officials including Secretary Labour Sajid Jamal Abro, SESSI Commissioner Hadi Bux Kalhoro.

Officials stated that the fund will ensure quality medical care and support for affected children and their families amid rising HIV cases at Valika Hospital. The meeting also reviewed an inquiry committee’s findings formed under provincial ombudsman directives. The governing body endorsed the committee’s recommendations, leading to the suspension of 37 doctors and paramedical staff and issuance of show-cause notices.

Ghani emphasized the government’s commitment to a transparent investigation and accountability for all responsible parties. He revealed that an inquiry committee was established on October 29, 2025, following initial reports of the issue. So far, 78 cases have been confirmed out of screenings conducted at Valika Hospital. Ghani assured that investigations are ongoing to determine if infections occurred during or before this period, with all doctors, paramedical staff, and officials on duty being scrutinized.

The governing body adjourned further deliberations until July 17 following the budget meeting for SESSI 2026-27 and revised SESSI 2025-26.
