Sindh to Face Mild Cold Wave as Winter Intensifies Across Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a “mild cold wave” in Sindh starting today, with nighttime temperatures expected to drop significantly as winter deepens across the country.

Upper Sindh is predicted to experience nighttime lows of 7-9 degrees Celsius, while central Sindh will see temperatures ranging between 9 and 11 degrees Celsius. Southern Sindh, including Karachi, is expected to record temperatures between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius tonight and into Sunday.

The region will continue to be affected by dry, cool winds from the northeast and northwest.

Meanwhile, Balochistan is enduring a harsher cold wave, with temperatures plunging to extreme lows. Mountainous areas near the Afghanistan border have reported temperatures as low as -7 degrees Celsius. Shelabagh recorded -6 degrees, while Ziarat, Toba Achakzai, and Qila Abdullah saw -5 degrees. Temperatures in Chaman, Pishin, and Muslim Bagh have fallen to -3 degrees Celsius, leading to frozen water in drains and streets.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned that northeastern and central Balochistan will face even lower temperatures starting tomorrow, exacerbating seasonal illnesses, particularly among children.

The PMD has also predicted moderate rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hilly areas in regions like Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Gilgit-Baltistan, continuing until December 11. Similar weather conditions are expected in parts of Punjab over the weekend.

Authorities have been urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions to minimize the impact of the harsh weather, particularly in northern and mountainous areas.
