Sindhi nationalist leaders have renewed their objections regarding Governor Kamran Tessori’s handling of the Sindh Governor House. On Friday, they accused Tessori of transforming the facility into a platform for ethnic politics, particularly in relation to an event attended by MQM-P leadership.
Ayaz Latif Palijo, leader of Qaumi Awami Tehreek, emphatically stated that the Governor House had become “the breeding ground for conspiracies against Sindh and Pakistan.” He argued that any move that threatened Sindh or the nation’s unity represented a significant risk to Pakistan’s sovereignty.
Palijo reiterated long-standing nationalist concerns over proposals to separate Karachi from Sindh, viewing it as an “old conspiracy” allegedly backed by foreign entities. He further accused MQM-P of acting as a pawn in these objectives.
Concurrently, Riaz Ali Chandio, chairman of Jeay Sindh Mahaz, criticized the federal government led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for its implicit support towards MQM-P’s “anti-Sindh narrative.” He warned that powers operating from Lahore and Islamabad were actively fostering efforts to divide Sindh.
Chandio also highlighted concerns over potential tensions between Sindhi and Urdu-speaking communities, noting their long history of coexistence. He stressed the need to prevent renewed attempts at stoking these divisions.
Other nationalist party leaders condemned the event in its entirety.
This fresh debate on provincial autonomy continues to strain relations within Pakistan’s federal system, highlighting deep-seated conflicts over resource distribution and cultural identity within Sindh.
