A powerful storm swept through Bucharest and 20 counties in Romania on Wednesday. One person was killed when a tree fell on their vehicle. Emergency services reported nearly 2,000 calls for help from Bucharest alone, with several metro stations flooded.
The storm caused damage in 60 towns and villages outside the capital. Police and firefighters were deployed across multiple counties to evacuate homes affected by flooding and clear debris. The severe weather was preceded by a heat wave, which saw temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in parts of the country on Monday and Tuesday, leading to increased power consumption and higher electricity prices.
