SU Presents Grand Cultural Event Celebrating Sindh Heritage with Traditional Performances

The Institute of Sindology at the University of Sindh (SU) organized a culturally vibrant event titled ‘Sughar Kachehri’ on its premises on Friday night. The program included masterful performances by traditional musical instruments, folk songs, and other art presentations. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr Fateh Mohammad Marri, Vice Chancellor of SU.

A significant number of scholars, writers, poets, lovers of fine arts, along with faculty members, students, and employees from the university attended this captivating event. Renowned sughars (folk scholars, storytellers, and entertainers) entertained the audience through their artistry, including storytelling, singing, and recitation of poetry, proverbs, and various other genres.

The performances were notable for artists such as Aajiz Rehmatullah Lashari, Khadim Hussain Manglo, Ali Gul Rind, Ali Akbar Udasi Chandio, Mohammad Jamman Bhatti, Allah Dino Brohi, Qazi Badruddin, Shakeel Ahmed Chandio, Talib Hussain Bhambhro, Halima Chandio, Mehrun-Nisa Manglo, Dilbar Gaincho, and Abdul Ghafoor Depar. They delighted the audience with their artistry.

Prominent folk artists like Wali Mohammad Khaskheli on alghoza and Saen Dino Brohi on chang mesmerized the attendees with soulful tunes of traditional instruments including alghoza and chang. The distinguished guests included Larkano University Vice Chancellor Dr Naik Mohammad Shaikh and Sindh University Registrar Sajid Qayoom Memon.

The ceremony was conducted by Aajiz Rehmatullah Lashari, a renowned sughar himself.

Speaking at the event, Professor Marri, Vice Chancellor of SU, emphasized that such cultural events are part of Sindology’s rich traditions. He stated that these events aim to promote Sindh’s centuries-old culture and provide healthy entertainment while spreading messages of love, peace, and tolerance through cultural expressions. The professor highlighted the performances by sughars, musicians, and vocalists as truly outstanding.

He further explained that the core objective of Sindology is to collect, preserve, and promote Sindh’s ancient history, culture, and heritage, disseminating knowledge and literary works in the process.
