Sydney Man Charged After Hero’s Actions During Bondi Beach Shooting

A Sydney man who gained national acclaim for his bravery during last year’s deadly mass shooting on Bondi Beach has been charged with assaulting his father. The incident occurred in March 2026 when Ahmed al Ahmed, aged 44, allegedly assaulted his father at a home in Bankstown.

New South Wales police confirmed receiving the report of an alleged assault on Monday, March 9, and subsequently charged the man with assault and stalking. He is set to appear in court on June 29.

Ahmed’s heroic actions during the attack, which resulted in 15 deaths and numerous injuries, were widely recognized as a pivotal moment in Australia’s fight against antisemitic terrorist activities. The incident led to a fundraiser that raised over $1 million for Ahmed, who met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to discuss his situation.

Despite the charges, Ahmed maintains that the alleged assault is “fake information” and denies any involvement. He has been focusing on his health and plans further arm surgeries to address injuries sustained during the attack.
