Thirty newly elected members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly took the oath at the inaugural session on Monday. Nazir Ahmed, who chaired the assembly session, administered the oath.

Thirty out of 33 members took the oath due to delayed notifications for three constituencies from court orders. The assembly is also expected to hold the election of the speaker, deputy speaker and leader of the house during this sitting.

PPP leaders Nayyar Bukhari and Qamar Zaman Kaira witnessed the proceedings from the visitors’ gallery in a parallel political development. PML-N and IPP have announced their intention to form a coalition government with the PPP.
