Trump dismisses US ground forces in Iran

US President Donald Trump has made clear his stance against any immediate US ground troops entering Iran, dismissing the Iranian leadership’s threats as “wasted comments.” In a phone interview with NBC News, Trump expressed that current conditions in Iran were unsuitable for military intervention. He also indicated a desire to remove Iran’s leadership structure, saying he wants an “immediate clean-up,” though he declined to name any potential successors.

Trump’s views are at odds with his stance on the appointment of Iran’s next leader after US-Israeli strikes that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei last Saturday. Trump has been vocal about his intention to be involved in this process and believes there should be a collaborative effort between the US and Iran to choose a new leader.

Despite these comments, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the US military’s objectives in Iran remain unchanged despite Trump’s remarks. This contradiction highlights the complex nature of America’s involvement in the conflict, which has already lasted for seven days with attacks on multiple targets including Israel, Gulf states, and Kurdish forces in Iraq.

The escalating tensions have taken a toll on the US economy. Although there hasn’t been widespread public support for this conflict at home, Trump dismissed concerns over rising gasoline prices by emphasizing his idea that the situation would be brief. The war’s impact has already affected global markets; Thursday’s stock market drop and surge in oil prices underscore the urgency of the crisis.

The United States is preparing its military with sufficient munitions to sustain a prolonged campaign against Iran. US officials have confirmed strikes on Iranian ships and missile launchers as part of Operation Epic Fury, targeting offensive missiles, production facilities, and naval capabilities.

While Iran has been taking retaliatory actions in response to drone attacks by Kurdish militias in Iraq, the threat is not limited to these groups. Hezbollah, backed by Iran, warned Israeli residents to evacuate towns near the border, while Azerbaijan threatened retaliation against Iranian missile strikes inside its territory.

As tensions continue to escalate across various fronts, including Lebanon and beyond, experts predict a prolonged conflict with significant human costs for both sides. The current situation is expected to persist, prompting further retaliatory measures from all parties involved in this complex regional conflict.
