US President Donald Trump announced on Monday his demand for countries like Qatar, Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey to join the Abraham Accords as part of efforts to reach an agreement with Iran. He stated this during a conversation he had on Saturday with leaders of these nations, along with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, which has already signed the accords. The accords are a set of agreements aimed at normalizing relations between Israel and several countries.
Trump emphasized that after significant US efforts to unify this complex situation, it should be mandatory for all these countries to sign onto the Abraham Accords simultaneously. He also noted that once Iran is part of the agreement following a peace deal, those countries would be honored to have them included.
The President further stated on Monday that negotiations with Iran are proceeding nicely, though he did not suggest that an imminent deal was likely.
