TTP calls for government transparency on defence pacts amid changing regional dynamics

ISLAMABAD: The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), or Tehreek Tahaffuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan as they are commonly known, issued a demand for the government to include opposition parties and Parliament in decision-making processes concerning national security matters. This call came after the escalating tensions in the Middle East and Afghanistan, culminating in the US-Israeli attack on Iran that led to the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Participants at a joint meeting held between PTI and other opposition parties in Islamabad expressed “deep concern” over these developments and decried the international laws violation by Israel and the US. They reiterated the importance of respecting state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international laws for global peace and stability. The participants also called on Muslim countries not to be used against any nation under external pressure.

The draft resolution paid homage to Ayatollah Khamenei and others who had lost their lives in attacks by the US and Israel, expressing sorrow over their deaths. They strongly condemned all instances of civilian casualties resulting from these actions, emphasizing that every state has a right to defend itself. The document stressed Article 40 of Pakistan’s Constitution, urging the government to foster relations among Muslim countries and promote Islamic unity.

The participants also expressed solidarity with Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded his father as Iran’s supreme leader, hoping for greater internal stability and progress under his leadership. They maintained that under Mojataba’s guidance, Iran would play a positive role in enhancing peace and stability within the region while fostering cooperation, unity, and harmony among Muslims.

The draft resolution also urged the government to take immediate diplomatic steps towards ceasefire and peaceful conflict resolution. It addressed ongoing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, highlighting Operation Ghazab lil-Haq launched by Pakistani forces against the Afghan Taliban. Opposition parties called for both sides to handle the situation through diplomatic channels and to ensure that Afghan refugees in Pakistan are treated according to international laws.

The draft also highlighted concerns over Imran Khan’s detention at Adiala jail. The opposition demanded his immediate release and emphasized that any cases against him should be dismissed through due judicial process. They expressed alarm at the inadequate medical facilities provided for Khan, who has been repeatedly hospitalized at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and required follow-up care at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s call for inclusivity among all stakeholders reflects their commitment to ensuring that decisions concerning national security reflect a consensus-building approach. Their stance on international laws, state sovereignty, and solidarity with Muslim countries underscores the importance of maintaining regional peace and unity amid complex geopolitical challenges.
