In the remote district of Bajaur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, four police officers were tragically killed and two others wounded when unidentified gunmen ambushed a patrol during Ramadan. The attack occurred in Nawagai Kalay, a suburb of Khar Tehsil.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday as Ababeel Squad members were out enforcing security duties near their homes. As the officers patrolled the area, armed assailants opened fire, wounding two and killing four instantly. Two others were severely injured at the scene, prompting an immediate medical evacuation to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar.

According to local police officials, the attackers managed to escape as soon as they fired upon the squad. Authorities have launched a search operation in the surrounding areas aimed at identifying and apprehending those responsible for the attack. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.

Witnesses reported that the Ababeel Squad had conducted routine patrols in heightened security zones during Ramadan, which is typically when such incidents occur more frequently. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the motive behind this deadly assault.

The Khar Tehsil District Police Station expressed concern about increased security threats against law enforcement personnel in Bajaur district. This latest attack highlights that despite recent efforts to bolster security measures, targeted attacks on police remain a significant issue in the region.

In response to the incident, security forces have intensified patrols across Bajaur, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining stability and public safety in the area. The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in this part of Pakistan.
