In Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham on Wednesday, where Graham shared his experiences during their hour-and-a-half conversation. The senator highlighted that he had addressed what he termed “false narratives” surrounding the UAE and its leader, dismissing these as mere fabrications.
Earlier in the week, social media had been teeming with speculation about Sheikh Mohammed’s health following President Erdogan of Turkey’s postponement of his planned visit to Abu Dhabi. Despite initial confusion and subsequent deletion from X, a post attributed to Erdogan had indicated that the Emirati ruler was facing a health issue.
Graham shared this personal encounter on X (formerly known as Twitter) where he also criticized those perpetuating false narratives against both the UAE and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed. This meeting in Qasr Al Shati, reported by WAM news agency with accompanying photographs and video clips of Sheikh Mohammed conversing with Graham alongside senior Emirati officials, underscored their shared commitment to regional peace efforts.
The ongoing tensions between the UAE and Saudi Arabia have fueled increased scrutiny on Abu Dhabi’s role. Notably, prominent Saudi social media voices intensified their criticism, accusing the Emirates of contributing to regional instability. Such commentary often singles out Sheikh Mohammed personally for scrutiny.
Wednesday’s meeting in Qasr Al Shati not only marked a continuation of dialogue but also served as a public demonstration of shared goals between two influential figures, further complicating the already complex geopolitical landscape surrounding Abu Dhabi and its relationships with other Gulf nations.
