UK Envoy Warns Against False Asylum Promises by Agents in Pakistan

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott warned against agents deceiving asylum seekers with false UK settlement and financial gains. Speaking to a local media outlet, she urged genuine applicants to use official online systems for applications, emphasizing safety from illegal facilitators.

Marriott highlighted tactics used by these agents, including exploiting vulnerable individuals through deceptive promises of migration to the UK. She noted that nationals are among top applicants for political asylum in the UK, often due to misinformation and exploitation rather than genuine eligibility.

The High Commissioner stressed reliance on official systems only, warning fraudulent practices lead to financial loss and hinder future legal travel. Efforts to educate public about safe migration routes and discourage illegal facilitators are being strengthened.

She also noted that the UK offers fully funded scholarship programmes for Pakistani students who apply through official channels, study in the UK, and return home to contribute to national development. The UK maintains strict laws against individuals involved in facilitating illegal migration or exploiting vulnerable people, with such activities met firmly under law.
