UK Finance Minister Slams Trump’s Iran War Folly, No Exit Plan

British Finance Minister Rachel Reeves has criticized US President Donald Trump for launching a war with Iran without a clear exit plan. This comment comes as Reeves prepares to attend an International Monetary Fund meeting in Washington, where the economic impact of the conflict will be discussed.

Reeves expressed frustration and anger over the lack of clarity regarding what the US aims to achieve from this conflict. The war, which began on February 28 with strikes against Iran by the US and Israel, has destabilized the global economy and led to soaring energy prices due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The British government has not announced new measures to support households affected by the increased cost of fuel, which has risen by 19 percent for petrol and 34 percent for diesel since the conflict started. Reeves is expected to urge global leaders at the IMF meetings to take coordinated economic action and enhance energy security. Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s team has also distanced itself from Trump’s rhetoric over Iran, with Health Secretary Wes Streeting criticizing his “incendiary” language.
