The United Kingdom is set to hold its 2024 general elections tomorrow, with less than 24 hours remaining until voting commences.
Around 50 million voters are expected to cast their ballots to elect new leadership. Over 4,500 candidates are vying for 650 parliamentary seats, divided among England (533), Scotland (59), Wales (40), and Northern Ireland (18).
To accommodate the voters, more than 40,000 polling stations have been established nationwide. Voting will proceed uninterrupted from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time. The results are slated to be announced on July 5.
A political party or coalition needs at least 326 seats to form a government. Following the elections, the newly elected members will take their oaths, and a Speaker will be chosen during a parliamentary session on July 9.
The Conservative Party’s current term was set to last until January 2025. However, on May 22, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced early elections, leading to tomorrow’s vote.
