A US Navy destroyer has docked at the Israeli port of Eilat, as tensions between Washington and Iran intensify. Ynet reported on Friday, citing military sources, that this arrival was pre-planned and part of ongoing cooperation between the US and Israeli militaries.
The deployment comes amid President Donald Trump’s signals to re-open talks with Iran while concurrently sending additional military assets to the Middle East region. A US defence official, speaking to Reuters, indicated that discussions on operational details were restricted due to security reasons, emphasizing the safety of service members as their top priority.
Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth stated that the US military was prepared to execute any course of action ordered by President Trump, who has previously warned Iran about returning to nuclear negotiations or facing more severe US actions. Tehran has responded with threats of retaliation against the United States, Israel, and other allies.
Trump also announced an “armada” heading towards Iran but suggested it would not be used unless necessary.
