A swift blaze engulfed a warehouse near Lahore’s Barkat Market on Friday, prompting immediate emergency response efforts. According to sources, the fire began in a house that had reportedly caught fire but subsequently spread rapidly into a warehouse-like structure. Rescue teams rushed to the scene after receiving reports, with multiple emergency vehicles present at the site.
Despite hours of firefighting efforts, the blaze has yet to be brought under control. Officials confirmed that a large number of chairs stored inside the warehouse likely contributed to the rapid spread of flames. Evacuations have been initiated in surrounding buildings as precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
This emergency situation mirrors last month’s tragic fire at a local hotel in Lahore’s Gulberg area, where a sudden blaze claimed three lives, injured five, and resulted in the rescue of 180 people. The hotel was located on the outskirts of the city, spanning an extensive 19-story building with three basement levels.
Rescue services from Rescue 1122 confirmed that the victims – identified as Imran, Shehryar, and Riaz – were rescued and their bodies were recovered. Shehryar was a young man aged 23, while Imran and Riaz were adults in their thirties. The injured individuals have since been taken to hospitals for treatment.
Immediate action was swiftly initiated following the alert. Rescue services dispatched twenty-one emergency vehicles along with eighty personnel, including officers, who participated actively in search and rescue operations over several hours.
