X (Twitter) to Introduce “Small Fee” for New Users

Elon Musk, CEO of X (formerly Twitter), has confirmed plans to introduce a “small fee” for new users of the platform. This fee will be required for actions such as posting, liking, bookmarking, or replying on the platform, Musk announced.

The decision to implement this fee is aimed at combating the “relentless onslaught of bots,” Musk stated in response to rumors. He highlighted the advancements in AI that allow bots to bypass human checks and the proliferation of fake accounts, which the fee model aims to address.

Since acquiring the social media platform in April 2022, Musk has been proactive in reshaping it according to his vision. This transformation culminated in the platform’s rebranding as X, signifying significant changes to its functionality.

The introduction of a fee for certain actions represents yet another shift, potentially posing a barrier to entry for some users. Musk clarified that the fee would apply to actions such as posting, liking, bookmarking, and replying, while following accounts and browsing content would remain free.

While Musk acknowledged the necessity of the fee, he did not specify the timeframe for its implementation.
