Tonight, Pakistan will witness the final supermoon of 2024, known as the Beaver Moon. This celestial phenomenon occurs when the moon reaches its closest point to Earth, known as perigee, during its full phase.

This year, the Beaver Moon will appear about 14% larger and 30% brighter than a typical full moon.

Will it be visible in Pakistan?

Yes, the Beaver Moon will be visible from Pakistan. The moon will reach its peak at 2:58 AM PST on November 16. The best time to observe it is right after sunset on November 15, when the moon rises approximately 20-30 minutes after the sun sets. At this time, the moon will look particularly large and bright.

In addition to the Beaver Moon, four planets will also be visible in the night sky. Mercury will be the first planet to appear after sunset, low in the southwest, but it will set shortly after. Venus, which will be high in the sky, will be the brightest object in the southwest and will make its first appearance on Friday night. Saturn will shine with a faint yellow hue in the southern sky, visible until after midnight.

Jupiter will rise in the east a few hours after the moon and remain visible throughout the night, setting after the moon on Saturday morning. Mars will rise just before midnight, joining the sky-watching event.

Earlier this year, remarkable supermoons included the Sturgeon Moon in August, the Harvest Moon in September, and the Hunter’s Moon in October. Tonight’s Beaver Moon is the fourth and final supermoon of 2024. The next supermoon will occur in October 2025.
