Lahore Fort Reopens with Hallowed Spaces for All Faiths

Punjab’s Minister for Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora inaugurated the Kaluah Temple and Ath Dara Pavilion at Lahore Fort on Saturday. The event highlighted the preservation of multicultural and interfaith heritage, with support from the US Ambassadors’ Fund for Cultural Preservation.

During the ceremony organized by the World City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), Arora underscored that Lahore has been a center for multiple religions and civilizations throughout history. He noted that the Kaluah Temple and Ath Dara Pavilion embody Punjab’s multicultural identity, symbolizing its rich heritage.

Arora also emphasized that safeguarding minority and interfaith sites preserves historical continuity and promotes interfaith harmony. The minister praised the efforts of the Aga Khan Cultural Service and WCLA for their contributions to site conservation. He further highlighted the potential benefits of promoting religious tourism, which can strengthen international ties and benefit local economies.

Arora stressed that opening these historical sites to communities such as Sikh, Hindu, and Christian populations represents a significant forward step. He stated, “Historical landmarks are bridges of unity, respect, and tolerance.” The Punjab government reiterated its commitment to continuing similar projects in the future.
