In Karachi, there has been an alarming increase in the number of reported dog bite incidents. On Tuesday, it was revealed that a tragic rabies death had occurred among the city’s populace for the first time in 2023. The victim was an eight-year-old girl from the Jhol area in Sanghar District. She was bitten by a stray dog approximately one and a half months prior to her death.

Regrettably, she did not receive post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for rabies after being bitten. Karachi’s health authorities have reported more than 3,000 cases of dog bites within the same month, highlighting the urgency of addressing this public health issue.
