Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan reaffirmed his commitment to protecting press freedom and addressing the professional and welfare concerns of journalists. He stated that a free and responsible media is crucial for a strong and functioning democracy.
During an informal meeting with office-bearers of the Pakistan English Media Association (PEMA), he expressed these views at a local hotel. The Speaker assured participants that the Punjab Assembly would actively participate in resolving issues faced by working journalists.
Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan underscored that the government regards the media as an essential component of democratic governance, accountability, and transparency. He also highlighted the significant role English-language media has played since Pakistan’s inception, noting its contributions to shaping national discourse, promoting informed debate, and bolstering democratic institutions.
