Canada’s Federal Minimum Wage Set to Rise

The Canadian government announced on Tuesday that it would increase the national minimum wage from $17.75 to $18.15 per hour starting April 1.

This change applies to employees working in federally regulated sectors, including air transportation, banking, federal Crown corporations, ports, and telecommunications.

The new rate represents a 21% increase compared to 2021 levels.

Employers in affected sectors must update their payroll systems to reflect the new wage from April.

Despite this increase, some regions will still have higher minimum wages. Yukon and Nunavut are expected to remain above the federal rate, while British Columbia’s minimum wage is set to rise to $18.25 in June.
