FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh Discusses Trade Hurdles with Member Customs Operations

Karachi: Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of , met with Syed Shakil Shah, Member Customs (Operations). They discussed significant issues in customs department. The meeting aimed at discussing mutual interests and presenting recommendations for reforms.

Sheikh emphasized the role of efficient border management in economic growth. He noted the appreciation for faceless system and pre-arrival clearance.

Shah assured of full cooperation from customs department, particularly regarding upgradation of customs laboratory and addressing grievances related to complaint management system.

highlighted daily operational challenges faced by importers and exporters including valuation disputes and clearance delays. They urged for a more transparent, fast-tracked, and digitalized mechanism.

Fayyaz Magoon questioned the delay in upgrading customs laboratory despite available funds. He proposed establishment of an international caliber lab to reduce costs and delays.

Sakhi pointed out inefficiencies in alternative dispute resolution committees (ADRCs) especially for SMEs. Paracha stressed need for modern, predictable customs procedures supportive of SMEs and reducing confiscation of goods based on mere suspicion.
