On Thursday, opposition leaders in Pakistan’s National Assembly and Senate formally empowered key figures from their ranks to negotiate with the government on behalf of the alliance. The decision was made at a meeting chaired by National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, attended by over 70 PTI lawmakers.
The resolution granted full authority to Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas to lead negotiations, stating that any decisions would be binding on all parliamentary party members. The alliance aims to restore constitutional order amid concerns over Imran Khan’s health, economic instability, and deteriorating law and order.
At the news conference, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan emphasized securing access for jailed founder Imran Khan as the meeting’s primary agenda. He called for urgent hearings of PTI-related cases and warned against any “minus-Imran” formula in politics. The party also announced planned protests against inflation and in support of Khan’s release.
Raja Nasir Abbas highlighted the severe political, economic, and security crisis facing the country, calling for dialogue as a necessity to restore constitutional supremacy and demand the release of political prisoners, including Imran Khan.
