Former legendary all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi expressed his surprise on Sunday regarding Babar Azam’s appointment as the white-ball captain of the Pakistan national cricket team.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Afridi remarked, “I am surprised by the decision made by the very experienced cricketers in the selection committee.”
Afridi showed support for Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, stating, “I still believe that if change was necessary, then Rizwan was the best choice!”
However, he extended his full support and best wishes to Team Pakistan and Babar Azam in light of the decision.
In a related development, Babar Azam’s father, Azam Siddique, urged the white-ball captain to respect senior players Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim.
Taking to Instagram, Siddique stated, “People are saying that there will be no unity in the team under the leadership of Babar Azam. I have explained to Babar Azam to forget what somebody had done in the past.”
He emphasized the importance of treating everyone in the team like brothers for unity and success.
