Another Spell of Nationwide Monsoon Rains Expected from August 09, Including Karachi

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted heavy monsoon rains across various parts of the country from Friday, August 9, to Monday, August 12. Karachi and other regions are expected to experience rain, wind, and thundershowers, with strong winds potentially affecting the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.

According to the latest forecast, rain-wind and thundershowers are anticipated in isolated areas of Sindh, including Mithi, Sanghar, Mitayari, Nausheroferoze, Jamshoro, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Khairpur, Thatta, Badin, Chhor, Padidan, Sajawal, Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Allayar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu. These conditions will occur intermittently from August 9 to 11.

In northern regions, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, and Sargodha, rain, wind, and thundershowers with scattered heavy falls are expected from August 9 to 12.

Southern areas such as Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Layyah will experience similar weather on the evening of August 10 and throughout August 11.

The Met Office has also predicted rain and thundershowers for parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The PMD had previously anticipated a wetter-than-usual monsoon season this year, highlighting Pakistan’s vulnerability to extreme weather due to climate change.

Over the past three days, heavy rainfall has resulted in 24 fatalities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
