At least 50 killed, dozens abducted in Nigeria’s Zamfara state attack

Nigeria’s Zamfara State saw violence escalate once again as armed attackers unleashed chaos upon the village of Tungan Dutse. At least 50 lives were extinguished, a number that continues to rise with each passing hour in this already troubled region. Traditional leaders and local officials have yet to account for all those missing from the attack.

The attack began around 5 PM on Thursday and continued until early Friday morning, as lawlessness reigns supreme. Local lawmaker Hamisu A. Faru revealed that houses were torched and residents shot when they tried to flee. He stated, “We are left with only the dead.” The number of abducted women and children remains undetermined as official inquiries continue.

Hamisu also added, “They have been moving from one village to another… leaving at least 50 people dead.” Local resident Abdullahi Sani provided a chilling account, saying three family members were killed. “No one slept yesterday; we are all in pain,” he lamented. The residents warned security forces multiple times, but their pleas fell on deaf ears.

Such violence underscores the urgency for Nigeria’s government to address this crisis and restore peace. The federal government is already under scrutiny for inadequate responses to previous attacks. This latest incident highlights that more decisive action must be taken against these “bandit” groups causing widespread disruption across northern Nigeria.

Residents continue to bear witness to the suffering, yet hope remains in the form of calls for greater vigilance from security authorities and an intensified search for those who have disappeared. The international community has also shown support with offers of aid, but true peace requires local leaders and governments to take responsibility and implement effective solutions.
