In a dominant opening performance in Dhaka, Bangladesh effortlessly crushed Pakistan by eight wickets in the inaugural ODIs of their recent series. Chasing an initial modest target of 115, Bangladesh quickly ascended to a commanding position.

Opener Tanzid Hasan led from the front, anchoring the innings with a powerful 67 not out off just 42 deliveries. He formed a formidable opening partnership with Saif Hassan, who helped set up a brisk start against Pakistan’s fast bowlers. The pair managed an initial stand of 27 runs and swiftly built upon it through regular boundaries.

Tanzid’s aggressive batting provided the foundation as he was joined by Najmul Hossain Shanto in the crucial phase of the chase. Together, they engineered Bangladesh’s charge towards a significant score with calculated aggression that defied Pakistan’s bowling attack. By the time they reached 50, the pair had contributed significantly to Bangladesh’s total, signaling an assured win.

Nahid Rana emerged as the Player of the Match for his match-winning five-wicket haul, sealing the victory by eliminating Pakistan’s last wickets in a commanding manner. His performance underscored Bangladesh’s superior bowling attack and their tactical acumen.

In stark contrast, Pakistan were bowled out for 114 runs, falling short of their allocated target due to an underwhelming batting display. Openers Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat started the innings well but soon faced significant resistance from Bangladesh’s fast bowlers, particularly Nahid Rana.

The Pakistani batsmen were swiftly dismissed by Rana: he first removed Sahibzada for 27 runs off just 38 deliveries. The innings further deteriorated as Rana continued his relentless bowling with subsequent wickets of Shamyl Hussain (4), Maaz Sadaqat (18), and Mohammad Rizwan (10).

Nehid Hasan Miraz also played a pivotal role, securing two more wickets in addition to Shamsur Rahman’s dismissal, effectively dismantling Pakistan’s batting lineup. Faheem Ashraf managed to top-score with 37 runs off 47 deliveries but was eventually dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Afridi.

The match saw Bangladesh clinch a comfortable victory under the bright lights of SBNCS, Dhaka. Post-match celebrations ensued as Bangladesh players and officials commended their performance. Tanzid’s fifth half-century on the international stage highlighted his growing profile in the team.

As the series progresses, Bangladesh continues to assert dominance over Pakistan with each match, showcasing their potential in the upcoming ODI series 2026.
