Bangladeshi Cricketer Shakib Al Hasan Faces Murder Charges in Dhaka

Veteran Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has been accused of involvement in the murder of a garment factory worker in Dhaka, the nation’s capital.

Reports indicate that the victim’s father lodged a formal complaint against Shakib and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a Dhaka police station on Thursday.

Shakib, currently on tour with Bangladesh’s national team in Pakistan, was previously a member of the now-dissolved Parliament led by Hasina. The former Prime Minister fled the country earlier this month amid widespread protests.

Despite the allegations, Bangladesh’s interim government has permitted Shakib to continue participating in the ongoing Test series against Pakistan, with the first match starting on Wednesday.

Shakib, a vital all-rounder for Bangladesh, boasts 4,505 runs in 67 Test matches and holds the record for the most wickets taken by any Bangladeshi bowler in this format, with 237 to his name.

As of now, neither Shakib nor the Bangladesh Cricket Board has made any public statements regarding the murder accusations.
