Interim government of Bangladesh has decided to issue new currency notes that will not feature the image of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh.
This change will initially apply to the currency notes of 20, 100, 500, and 1,000 takas. The Ministry of Finance and the Bangladesh Bank have confirmed this decision, describing it as a significant step in the country’s currency system.
On September 29, a letter was issued requesting proposals for various currency designs, followed by plans for a phased redesign of all currency notes. This decision is part of the current political climate and the new government’s policies.
