Barbra Streisand remembered her late friend and collaborator, Robert Redford, during the In Memoriam section at the 2026 Oscars. She performed “The Way We Were,” the title song from her 1973 romantic drama film.
Streisand’s portrayal of Katie Morosky in the Sydney Pollack-directed film was opposite Redford’s character Hubbell. The film and its hit song secured top positions on Billboard and Grammy charts, respectively.
Redford had initially rejected his role due to a perceived lack of character strength. Streisand recalled him as thoughtful and bold, an intellectual cowboy who blazed his own trail. She shared fond memories of their collaboration, including Redford’s playful nickname for her, “Babs.”
