The federal government has ordered a comprehensive audit of fuel conservation and austerity measures across its departments following instructions from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Under the directive, the Intelligence Bureau has been assigned to conduct a detailed assessment of how fuel-saving initiatives are being implemented throughout the government. The bureau will verify compliance with the policy, evaluate its effectiveness, and submit weekly progress reports to the prime minister.
A fresh notification issued by the Cabinet Division has reinforced the monitoring framework, directing departments to strictly follow fuel conservation and austerity guidelines.
Officials said the review is intended to strengthen accountability and improve the efficiency of public spending. The findings are expected to help the government determine whether current austerity measures are delivering results and identify areas where policies may need adjustment to ensure better management of national resources.
